Fashion for the Heatwave

Living in Southern California in the summertime poses a need for fashion that wears great in high temperatures. Whether or not you believe in global warming, you will feel the heat this summer and you may as well look "hot" with those high digits.

So here are some tips.

1. You can never go wrong with white. I just returned from a Saturday filled with shopping and about 65% of the clothing was white.

2. Linen is also always a great look even when it wrinkles, then of course everyone knows it is L-I-N-E-N!

3. It is time for those cute little skirts and sun dresses that have been hibernating the closet since last spring. Very contemporary bright patterns are in, almost reminiscent of a Matisse Painting or a 1960's geometric pattern.

4. A great pair of metallic flat sandals work with everything and what I have found are really great are the ones with gemstones (especially turquoise cabochons...my personal favorite). Try Tory Burch thongs as a splurge or if on a budget J. Crew has some great crazy critter styles.

5. As for jewelry this summer, bangles are HUGE and the more the better. We are also going to see loads of textures, shapes and colors this season in jewelry. Funky red square crystals mixed with polka dot buttons for example, and animal prints will remain strong.

6. Most important make sure to sport the accessories of a cute pair of shades and a hat! I'm currently sporting Burberry but I have my eye on the new aviator shades by Marc Jacobs and the Kimiski straw hats. These are two great pieces to add to any summer wardrobe.

Happy shopping :-)

"Sex and the City" Fashion

So I just saw the infamous "Sex and the City" new release and thought I'd write a post on the jewelry the ladies wore and my thoughts. The general lack of necklaces was quite prevalent as the fashion was more focused on the "accessories" such as large antique brooches and hair pins, chunky earrings to wide belts and over sized hats. However after having said that, Charlotte still maintained her traditional and conservative simple necklace and Carrie layered several types and colors of pearls.

To be jewelry specific, the antique brooch was seen on Carrie's wedding dress which beautifully complimented her Vivienne Westwood gown and feathered cap (seen to the left here in NY Times). Charlotte also sported a beautiful circular diamond brooch on her black dress during Fashion Week scene. Another bold choice included the use of huge contemporary earrings on Miranda and Samantha which complimented their geometrical patterned dresses.

I also noticed the underlying theme of what I like to call "fashion fusion" where just like PF Changs, two different genres were blended together. An example is seen where Carrie and Big are in their soon to be penthouse apartment and Carrie sports her vibrant vintage green party dress with a Gothic style black studded leather belt.

The girls all maintained their own unique styles, while the main theme in all four of them included bright and vibrant hues from hot fuchsia and canary yellow to emerald green. Metallics were also prevalent from silver and gold dresses to matching shoes and purses.

Personally, I enjoyed the fashion more than the film (like Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette).

It was great to see the ladies back on the screen after 4 long years... and the fashion was better than ever!

What Jewelry Trends are cool for Spring?

I'm always interested the new fashion movements for Spring and I seem to have found a couple of fun trends. Bright and vibrant colors are in with loads of fuchsia and hot pink. Popular stones include blue topaz and rose or olive quartz, which compliment anything from dangling earrings to over sized cocktail rings. As for turquoise, instead of silver, mix it with gold. And last but not least....Less is not more. Chunky multi-strand necklaces are the way to go. Mix and match colors and textures to create the ultimate Spring fling!
